Summer Break

The computer stopped recording dates for our pictures the way it used to, so we're missing half of them! Junish and Aprilish was the best I could do at times ... Isaac is coming up on a year! He's not walking yet. It looks like it'll probably be right around 1. He's just been standing and balancing in place which he finds very clever and highly entertaining. As for talking, he's dropped all sounds but "da". It means "pass the water please", "isn't that a lovely painting", take me outside to blow bubbles NOW", mom, dad, dog, shoes, and yogurt, amongst other things. He says mama and dada too, but I don't now what they mean ... I think they mostly mean "I'm angry and don't speak your language". He claps and laughs a lot and points at everything, but he won't kiss me on demand despite 10 months of coaching. He seems to have a major interest in studying paintings and photographs. I think he's going to be a photographer ... and an author ... and maybe a children's book illustrator. Those are my predictions on the record. Let's see how close I end up :).

So you think you can dance? 7/24/08 10 mos. 14 days

I tried to catch Isaac dancing. He sits by himself, pushes the button on his little radio and then sings to himself and dances. It's funny when you catch him in the act, but he tones it down once he knows you're watching :).

Hiking in Lake Arrowhead - 7/30/08 10 mos. 20 days

We went up to Lake Arrowhead for Eugene's birthday to celebrate the fact that his knees still function now that he's pretty much in his mid-thirties. Although we did hike the paved "children's trail" ...

Swimming at Dad's Surprise Birthday Party - 7/27/08 10 mos. 17 days

Isaac loves swimming!

Visiting Brazil - 07/08/08 - 07/23/08

We went to Brazil for two weeks to debut Isaac to my family there. The 30 hour trip there was HORRIBLE with Isaac screaming his little lungs out (tired) for a good chunk of the way. Coming back he was WAY better - thank God. I was prepared to find a job for the next 5-7 years until he figured out how to sleep sitting up. The next big trip will be in a car so we can turn the radio up really loud when the screaming starts ;). Actually, in his defense, we did aim pretty high the first time around. No 30 hour plane trips for a while ... Meanwhile, it was great having everyone meet him. He is my grandmother's first great-grandchild.

Visiting Cate 6/22/08 9 mos. 12 days

We went up to San Fransisco for Cate's baptism. Cate is my friend Cheri's daughter. Along with Jacque the three of us have been friends for 21 years now!! That's a lot of phases ... and now we're in the grown-up one. Maybe we'll marry off Isaac and Cate to each other some time in the mid-21st century.

Brown Rice vs. White Rice

A New Sound

This one only lasted a week or so, and he was polite enough to wait while he had food in his mouth so as not to spray us.

Day at the Long Beach Aquarium

I'm not entirely sure how the birds tie in ... we saw fish too. Isaac found them all fascinating.

Some of our immediate family who live in the area.

Hanging with the Sohns 4/19/08 7 mos. 9 days

John is Eugene's cousin which makes Sophia Isaac's 3rd cousin once removed or something along those lines. We just go with "cousin". As a matter of fact, I think I'll start going with cousin for Cate too since Cher and I have grown up together. Isaac could use some extra cousins ... Karen.

The Past 2 Months

Let's see, in the past two months Isaac has grown two more teeth on top to balance out the bottom ones, has gone from scooting to crawling, has been spending a lot of time standing around, clung on to any semi-stable object, and finally, just recently, began sitting. Hopefully he'll get paused in the standing stage for a few more months before moving on to walking. He has a lot to say and isn't into sitting still. I've watched him make his circuit through the daycare window: In the garden center, out the garden center, in, out, in, out, open mailbox, close mailbox, open, close, open, close, roll in the bookcase, out of the bookcase, remove all objects from the bookcase, etc . . . All the while, the other babies sit propped on their pillows admiring their hands. Luckily, he loves to socialize, so when he crawls over them as they block his circuit path, he beams at them and chit-chats politely about his plans.

These are out of order - we're still catching on to the formatting!

Tooth Number Two - 2/18/08 5 months, 8 days

I guess we won't report every tooth he gets, but number two is still exciting :). They're sharp little things. They're next to each other on the bottom - like an inverted bunny mouth.

Superbowl - 2/3/08 4 months, 24 days

I don't know how the game went, but Isaac met his first dogs. Actually, he's met his grandparents' really old pug, Dusty, but that was a while ago and he doesn't move much. Isaac was pretty indifferent to these guys. As long as he didn't have to share his chew toy, he was happy.
